Why Running Blood?
Don't worry, I get this question a lot.
I raise Thoroughbreds for my personal riding horses. Dressage and sidesaddle are my personal favorites, though we do lots of things. There is a great song by Michael Martin Murphy (he wrote "Wildfire" as well) called "The Running Blood" which was the inspiration for the farm name. You can listen to the song here. You can read the lyrics below. (and if you haven't heard it, Dan Fogelberg's "Run for the Roses" is another great song)
The Running Blood
I'm a big race horse
I can run so fast
I don't even think about being last
When I make my move
I don't feel no pain
I got running blood rushing through my veins
So don't hold on
Don't hold back
If you gonna run
On the winning track
Cuz trying hard is not enough
You've got to have the running blood
(yeah)
I wanna feel the wind blowing through my mane
I can't be held back and I can't be tamed
I'm a wild horse running across the plains
I got running blood so cut loose my reins
So don't hold on
Don't hold back
If you gonna run
On the winning track
Cuz trying hard is not enough
You've got to have the running blood
I'm gonna have a winning season
You're really gonna see me shine
God gave me strong legs for a reason
To be the first to cross the line
At the starting gate
Hear that pistol crack
Feel the muscles rippling across my back
When I make my move I'll give it all my strength
When that running blood beats 'em by a length
So don't hold on
Don't hold back
If you gonna run
On the winning track
Cuz trying hard is not enough
You've got to have the running blood
Don't hold on
Don't hold back
If you gonna run
On the winning track
Cuz trying hard is not enough
You've got to have the running blood
